Apparently I just got a new computer with Windows 7 Ultimate, and now Aeons of Death 6 occasionally freezes/crashes randomly during gameplay. Compatibility mode doesn't seem to change much.

Sidenote: Major Cooke's HTC2 mod crashes almost immediately after the balloon in the sky explodes in the very beginning of the level. If it doesn't, freezes or crashes two or three minutes later.

The same here. I've had Win 7 in my laptop since I got it a couple years ago and I can count with the fingers of one hand the times AEoD has given me problems.

Could it be a problem with your video card or something?

Thirded. I think that if us three have Win 7 and a lack of problems, then the problem is not with Windows.

Im with Kosta that it could be some other problem, like aforementioned videocard or something else. Dont know much about computers so wont start shooting in the dark for possibilities.

Windows 7 here as well. Pro, mind.

Now, I've heard about bloatware from new computers causing problems, but naturally the first thing I do whenever I get a new computer is I reformat it off the bat. Get rid of the unnecessary crap, like my laptop for example came with windows 7 home on it. Naturally, I'll want to use windows 7 pro as it's better and able to handle XP compatibility mode for whenever I do use it. Some computer manufacturers have that problem: They put on a ton of resource intensive programs that will run at any time and consume your RAM, and processor power.

Well that just sucks. I was in eager to finally play HTC2 without absolutely no lag. I'm not sure what could be wrong, my video card is a GTX550Ti, and I didn't install anything useless in the system, just the drivers.

Question: Zdoom, or GZdoom?

And tell me all your current graphic level settings too please.

I'm using GZDoom, the version used for running HTC2 properly (howeverI played AEoD with Deus Vult using the newest GZDoom SVN and it froze once)

And for graphic levels do you mean the settings currently used for GZDoom? I don't get it, sorry.

Yeah. I.e. what are your render settings? You don't have antialiasing on and stuff like that, right?

Here is some info of the Display Settings:

Rendering Quality: Quality
Use Vertex Buffer: Dynamic
Texture Filter Mode: None
Anisotropic Filter: 16x
Texture Format: RGBA4
Enable Hires Textures: Yes
High Quality Resize Mode: Off
Resize Textures/Sprites/Fonts: On
Precache GL Textures: No
Camera Textures Offscreen: Off
Trim Sprite Edges: On

And I will turn off all of the Antialiasing settings in my video driver's menu to check if something changes. I saw something about "Antialiasing - Gama Correction", which has something related with OpenGL. Might be something.

And you wonder why you have lag/crashing issues. Change this around a bit...

Rendering Quality: Speed
Use Vertex Buffer: Dynamic
Texture Filter Mode: Trilinear
Anisotropic Filter: Off
Texture Format: RGBA8
Enable Hires Textures: No
High Quality Resize Mode: Off
Resize Textures/Sprites/Fonts: Off
Precache GL Textures: Yes
Camera Textures Offscreen: Off
Trim Sprite Edges: On

And for the record, I play almost all my games at medium-low quality. I'm not interested in all the fancy detail too much. Some is fine.

Hmm. That does make the game a lot more stable, but I still having some freezing issues that always happen in the first room of HTC2 that has a lot of funky lights, the game freezes as soon I start killing the monsters inside.

Another note, trying to load a game after a crash, I always get this error in the command line: "Unknown Object (0) in Archive".

Means stop trying to load the saved game because it's corrupted. Start anew.

For what's worth. Pretty much all the development of AEoD and it's testing, and current playing in my computer was done under Windows 7 ultimate. I dont remember having crashes other than the coding errors that were fixed prior release or in the patches.

Apparently I think I found something. I tried to disable the Dynamic Lights, and for now the game didn't freeze. At least not yet.

But the catch is that the game used to freeze only while killing all monsters/balloons in the first area with the funky lights. I think it has some kind of connection there. In the previous computer, I used to play with the Dynamic Lights always off due it's low performance.

That's not the case. What happens is, there's different gibs and different variations of blood that will be "first time" loaded. You should go in and see just how many different versions there are, and that's not even half of the lot. If you understand the TEXTURES lump, heh... It's gotta load all of them, so the first few kills or so will be laggy.
