Hmm, I admit I'm not too much into metalcore, but Sikth have one hell of a bassist, to be fair.

Well, now I'll go for some classic stuff. Behold (or rather, listen to) one of the forgotten gems of the NWOBHM:

This one is one of my Battle Hymns (Manowar pun intended) when playing AEoD Cool

Well, Children of Bodom do bring me some fond memories. They where one of my gateways to extreme metal, the others being Cannibal Corpse, Death, Possessed, and my fellow countrymen Avulsed. Man, I feel old right now Sad

Anyways, now for something totally different...

I was playing Alien Vendetta (with AEoD, of course) map 31, Killer Colours, and the name of the map reminded me of these guys (one of the most overlooked bands in hard rock's history, really):

I can't really avoid wondering if the name of the map is a direct reference to these guys. If it indeed is, yay for the mapper(s).

Heh, good ol' Hevy Devy Townsend. I loved Strapping Young Lad, too bad he decided to lay the band to rest. At least his solo stuff is still good.

Well, If you like you metal technical, then you really need to check Atheist ASAP. They did it earlier and way better than most. Specially, their last album before their more-than-a-decade-long hiatus, Elements, is just mind-boggling.

And now, let's see if I can find their latest album. Man, good music is real damn hard to come by down here =/

Hmm... never heard of these guys before. They remind me a bit of Arcturus and their avant-garde stuff. I'll track 'em down, let's see if I can find them somewhere.

Time for a bit of the good 'ol classic stuff.

Raven are another criminally overlooked band from the NWOBHM. This album, Wiped Out, despite sounding similar to Judas Priest's Painkiller, is from freaking 1982. That is, almost a decade earlier than Painkiller. They were ahead of their time, really.

Arcturus is one of my favorite bands, partly because Garm was involved when they did one of the albums which probably left its trace heh.

The lyrics in this one really fits to doom imo.

I played it when I killed yogg-saron the old god in wow which was almost perfect. Those big bosses in wow is really what the game is all about.

Heh, remembering "old school", I was reminded of this thing... nothing to do with aeod, nor playing it while gaming, but is worth a laugh.

...as long as you're not a black metal fanboy

Jesus, this thing made me laugh so hard the 1st time I saw it!

Heh nice. Well I love some black metal and loathe the rest. Though Ive never belonged to any music "group" so I pretty much considered the satanism and makeup part pretty amusing.

There are good black metal songs though:

The lyrics are awesome if you like folklore and know norwegian heh. Think theres a translation at darklyrics though.

Nightrage's Failure of All Human Emotions is a provocative fast-pace brutality song which really stirs up my hive to go killing things.

I'm not, but I DO like some. Ulver's 1st album, for example, is awesome. And I love it despite knowing shit of norwegian Rolling Eyes

And Lich King are fun as hell. A band whose vocalist is named A Fucking Tyrannosaur has to be cool xD

Did I hear fast paced brutality?

Gentlemen, I introduce you to Wehrmatch, possibly the fastest band of the 80's. Only Cryptic Slaughter could compete back in the day with this in good ol' punkish blasting.

Yeah, well, I dont like black metal. I mean, the music is actually (in some cases) interesting, like when they're not tremolo picking a single note all the time; as a matter of fact, in that genre (the non OMGBRUTAL) I constantly hear some great dissonances and weird harmonies, and that I like. What I dont like is the whole fashion and (literally) posing, and those mosquito buzz guitars.

About Wehrmacht, that's fast indeed. I like fast playing as long as there's some complexity on it, like in here! at least the riffs change! Razz

Yeah, well, I also find all the corpsepainting stuff ridiculous. Laughable at best. But you know, there are some bands in the style I actualy enjoy.

Exhibit A:

Now, if more bands were like Immortal, I'd have fewer qualms with the Black Metal genre, but well...

At least this album is great =)

You should try listening to that song with head phones by Nightrage. They've actually got a lot more melodic and symphonic instrumentation in there. It's really riveting unlike their old stuff.

Yeah, for some reason, in the "extreme scene" is kind of hard for me to find "oldschool" material that I like. I do agree that some stuff changes for good, even when they're leaving a bit aside what the original genre/subgenre was supposed to show.

For example, I loved death metal, but then I started finding it not very pleasant because for every fault the black has, the death has it's equivalence. Then again, that's in the "oldschool", because as soon as they started fusing with other things, it started getting interesting. aka I LUV ATHEIST LOL Razz

Man, there I have to disagree with you. I'm as retro as you can get when it comes to the extreme scene. Of course I love many modern bands (Necrophagist or Spawn of Possession come to mind), but the oldies have a certain charm, so to say.

Speaking of which...

Oh yes. The MASTERS are back. Autopsy have for a very long time been one of my favourite death metal bands, if not my favourite period. To see them reforming (something unthinkable a few years ago), releasing material, which is not only good, but stands toe to toe with such a masterpiece as Mental Funeral, is a dream come true. Let's hope I have a chance to see them live.

Not to mention that Autopsy are THE band to play when killing stuff in Doom.

Well, seeing that this is a bit inactive, I'm going to post here yet again. Now, I'm going to show you something, well... awesome does not even begin to describe.

Gentlemen, I introduce you to Jackyl, a southern Rock band featuring chainsaw solos. You read that right, CHAINSAW solos. If that ain't cool, I honestly don't know what is.
