PostSubject: BossBrain   Sun Sep 05, 2010 12:00 am

I've recently completed armadosia.wad with AEoD. The final boss on MAP30 (like in Doom 2/Plutonia/TNT) was extremely tough there. I spent all my chickens and an insane amount of rockets while trying to not drop down (it was important in that map) and activate all the protection powerups at once.

I finally blew the boss up, on 5th try.

So, here comes the question: How much health does the new BossBrain actor have? (Armadosia.wad itself contains no DEHACKED/DECORATE), so I guess it's AEoD.

I think it has something to the effect of 10,000 HP in AEoD. The original Doom II Cyberdemon has 4,000 HP I think. I'll check when I get home.

It's only the last map. On all other maps it's on, it's the usual health, mostly because of wads like Scythe. As for why it's so high...well, by the time you reach map 30, you'll likely have enough firepower to blow up a planet, so a weak boss brain wouldn't be much of a challenge.

Isnt weps like the fusion generator and similar more effective?

I didn't get it this time.

And really, how about weakening the boss a bit? 10000 HP is too high. Especially because in most WADs you can only inflict splash damage to it.

I think its fair in most wads. Then there are those that have 5+ spawners active while on the boss which are op from the beginning.

A tip is to save a flying rune or whatever its called and fly up to whatever position you want. Though Ive doubt you havent thought about that already heh.

OK, if the developers want so. I forgot that I can always change anything in the game files to fit my personal requirements... just not to a level where it will be pure cheating (I made the gibs stay, and I guess it's time for something else to do). Wink

I always thought that the sole fact that you can aim up and down is a lot of advantage vs the doom2 final boss, so, I made him resist a lot more. Basically because not even in vanilla doom2, I felt like it was a real boss battle; in fact, I felt it really boring.

So, you want to say "I did beat aeod in X wad"? Well, if you can kill the bossbrain with it's new health amount, you'll proudly say it. I mean, even doom2's map30 (with aeod of course) beats me constantly, so yeah, it becomes a challenge on other megawads that focus in making the battle harder.

The addition of monster with instanthitting/rail weps which are stronger than the first two weak types makes it much more difficult tbh. Once the projectiles flying towards you reaches a certain point, then there really isnt much harder once you add loads more. Instanthitting changes this.

But there's one thing to consider:

Portable powerups to use at convinience. We put those there for a reason, and should be used when needed. Not counting that you get virtually endless amounts of health from the monsters spawned, not to mention ammo.

Once again, it all comes down to the fact that it's difficulty depends a lot on how lucky you were through your gameplay. Perhaps you got a redeemer, and in a couple shots, you're done. Perhaps the best thing you got was a MissileLauncher, and then you're pretty much screwed.

But then again, we have runes, we have the elemental symbols, the dice, and all the other items. Still, all in all, is not meant to be an easy battle at all. Wink

Against the Icon of Sin, I find that having an Air Symbol makes the battle x10 times easier. I guess it ain't cheating if a powerup allows you to have a clear shot at that bastard. Preferably with a Redeemer.

Yeah the only time I find it useful. Should be noted that you can quite easily cheat and get you to places your not supposed to be yet with it though which I dislike except for the last bossfight on the brain. Razz

I use it only in these 3 scenarios:

1): As I mentioned, the Icon of Sin.

2): If I happen to fall into a pit of lava or acid from which you can't get out.

3): If a monster drops a highly desirable weapon and/or item on an unreachable edge.

I don't like taking shorcuts, you never know where you'll find a nice weapon.

Don't forget... Adds, and distractions. Let out an army of helpers to keep the hordes at bay, they can do some real good and save you some extra firepower... ESPECIALLY if you happen to get a resurrector as an ally. They too drop ammunition and weaponry which you can use. And if you don't have resurrectors, reserve your dark mana for raising other resurrectors such as the black cloaked fellas that look like Hexen's mage boss.

God. Summonfriend lichking/demilich. Fly. Bring some popcorn and then watch the fireworks. cheers

How long is he going to last? I bet more than an hour if hes not telefragged. He might even kill the boss before hes done if your lucky.

Dear god Im bored.

Something about the Air Symbol: yeah, it's useful in the final boss fight. And it becomes even more useful if the hole where the BossBrain is is not marked as impassable and you have crouching enabled. Twisted Evil

Just tested this on Doom II MAP30 (if you get me).

Findus: I like fireworks, but I don't like cheating. Cheating is only for development/testing! But that's just my opinion.
