PostSubject: [Cant reproduce] Double rocket launcher sprite still disappears   Tue Oct 12, 2010 11:05 pm

Running Zdoom 2.5.0 (r2929) (Oct 10th 2010) with just stock Doom 2, AEOD 5.28. No music wad.

800x600 resolution, windowed (Starts up like this)

Yeah... same issue I had before, I have no idea what's causing it.

EDIT: I wiped my zdoom.ini to reset all my settings, started it in 640x480 fullscreen. I only changed my controls then launched the first level of Doom 2, still does it.

Just tested with zdoom r2915(2920) and 2929, same resolution and windowed, no issue found.

Are you getting console error messages?

Nope, I'm not getting any errors whatsoever...

I'm going to try redownloading the main AEOD package though, maybe that'll help.

Oh, did you try starting it with those settings? Like, setting them before closing Zdoom and starting it again?

I deleted the ini then set up like that. No issues at all. Is certainly weird. I would expect to see warnings in the console if the issue is present.

Also, the main pack has nothing to do with this, since it's all handled in the AEoDdat.pk3 file.

Do you run any special video settings in Zdoom?

I'm downloading AEOD again, the main package... I'll try it in a couple minutes.

I'm getting nothing that looks like an error message, at all, and I've seen what they look like when they happen. Just loading text, initializing, etc.

Nothing that catches my eye.

EDIT: Updated to r2935, same issue but at least I'm on the latest version.

Can you please post what the console shows, and the filesize of the AEoDdat.pk3?

how much does it reports in bytes? I know it sounds obvious, but gotta make sure.

The console looks just fine though.

6,521,364 bytes in size.

I have an early morning, ugh, so I need to get some rest. I'll catch up on this later.

Hm, well I guess I could ask how it was fixed for 5.2.8? That might give me an idea as to what originally caused it.

The thing is, when they were originally set to their old firing ways they were always double firing. This was annoying as all hell. When we discovered a use for the TEXTURES lump, not only did it mean saving space but it also allowed a crapload of more flexibility...

Anyway, let's get down to business. I'll be attempting to pick up where DBT is currently stuck at. Are you capable of setting your resolution to 1024x768? I'm gonna run a bunch of tests on ya and see if anything pops up.

Yes I can, running in full screen 1024x768 makes zero difference.

What would you like me to try?

Try running in windowed mode, see if that does anything.

Also, try going into your textures menu inside of options, and toggle Camera Textures Offscreen to on. Make sure Trim Sprite Edges is off.

Isnt that last one a gzdoom specific option? V1cT is experimenting issues with zdoom.

For what I can tell, this issue seems to be specific of zdoom. I use gzdoom and I have no problems with the RL sprites.

I believe you're thinking Precache GL textures... or so I believe.

Uh... there is no textures menu inside of "Display Options" on Zdoom, that's GZDoom...

Yeah, windowed at 1024x768 (which is rather difficult to play on, considering that's my desktop resolution) still makes no difference.

DING DING DING! We have a winner Razz

Anyway, I have been thinking about this, and I believe this is some sort of vexing bug, since we cant replicate it. Last time it was because some definitions were wrong on the TEXTURE lumps (hence the warnings in the console), but now, even zdoom thinks it's all fine.

Hm, why not just return the double rocket launchers to their original state, where they fired two shots with one press of the trigger?

Rockets are more than extremely plentiful, and it's a fair trade-off to use twice as much ammo when firing twice as much gun. Razz

Because rockets, resource-wise are more intensive to find.

Hm, true. Though, I do run into a lot of those rocket zombies.

Maybe there's an odd scripting bug somewhere with the Rocket Launcher, I guess I could run it in GZDoom software mode, but then that would defeat the purpose of running GZDoom. Not sure if it would leak like that, though.

EDIT: GZDoom has no software rendering mode, durh.

I tried to run it, works fine in that, but the framerate seems to grind to a halt when I fire the rocket launchers. Shortly after, the whole game does, but that's just what GZDoom tends to do on my PC.

Gzdoom has software. Open the console and type "gl_nogl 1".
