Is not. As he mentioned, is from an older version. The HUD pretty much confirms it. The screenshot is very nice though Razz

I got a cool old v5 one as well. From the old v5 thread.

v5... Sad

Was just too mesmerized about the Enlightenment Staff to notice anything else. I loved that weapon.

@Colossus: I'm so sorry, I thought no one would react like that. No The Enlightment Staff sure is a saviour but... Personally, I find it broken too. I give their reason to take them out.

@Findus: Good find, I wonder of that one still on V6. Question

@DBThanatos: Hah, glad you like. Laughing Personally, I think if this... weapon needs a comeback, it needs to chug up more ammo what it was done with several Slot 0 weapons in v6, and/or be more slower at firing maybe. confused

Its a very cheap weapon, a very powerful hitscan as primary and the secondary instantly hits everything on the screen which is hell of op. When the mana was more frequent I cleared many maps in scythe2 with it alone.

Yeah, I suppose it was a tad bit too powerful, but it was still a the perfect all around weapon. Getting surrounded didn't apply to you with that baby.

If the Enlightenment Staff ever comes back, it could used red and dark mana to balance it out, instead of blue mana. Also making it rare, on par with say the Head Hunter, as it was somewhat common in v5; almost every game I played I encountered it at least once.

(Yes, we all can talk about Enlightenment Staff forever, because it was THAT useful (while also admittedly cheap))
Another possible way to balance it could be really pumping up mana usage to hundred points per blast (or two, if blue mana);
yet another possible way could be to reincarnate its alt-fire as an inventory item---so you wouldn't look to it as your default problem negator, but still use it once in some time;
and one more possible way (also inventory-related) could be like an antipode of Ice Shield---not constantly damaging, but in once-per-second bursts totally summing up, plus ice protection...
And still I don't think they will bring it back without changing it completely---but it will not be the same then.

Then I think you're the first one to report to get that weapon legit. Congrats!

So, I take it you havent played portal 2? Because that's where the idea came from. Then I put my weapon sprite construction to the test to make it Razz

Besides, there's already the Apocalypse, which is pretty much the exact same weapon. The Enlightenment staff was pretty much redundant with the Apoc, and even maybe the ES was better than it while being much easier to find.

ES was explosion-based, unlike Apoc, which is BFG-like (see: shotgun-like).
ES fired in a full circle, while Apoc only fires in a wide cone.
ES' damage decreased linearly with distance and was unlimited in how much stuff it killed. Apoc spreads a finite number of rays that can go to great distances (though each separate one is not strong), but obviously its rays stop at first coming target, as rays are not rails.

So, ES could clear a room with hundreds of minor spawn (as shown by WSRainer), while Apoc can kill the greatest in a hit or two, and severely damage a few major monsters, but not reach those behind them.

(Yes, we can talk about Enlightenment Staff forever. We spent quite some time with it in AEoD 5 I love you )

Well, I'd suggest to the AEoD team to give the Apocalypse features more like those of the Enlightenment Staff, thereby bringing it back to a place it actually deserves to be, slot 0. The Apoc, as it is, is too weak to be in that slot.

Look at that marvelous monster count. This map is part of a full megawad called Hellbound, which you all should try out ASAP.

What kind of WAD is it? Slaughterfest, progressively harder and harder or something else?

Well, maps use to have lots of enemies because they're huge but they're not slaughter maps. Think Armadosia without switch hunting and very, VERY detailed maps and you have Hellbound.

I have played a week ago Hellcore and it had the same monster amount in one map, it was exactly 666 monsters. Shocked (or was it in HR2? I can't remember Rolling Eyes )
Here is a random gameplay screenshot of AEOD in Kama Sutra MAP21

EDIT: I don't mind playing Hellbound megawad but this one was released recently, right? If so, I have to finish megawads from year 2005 to 2012 (cacowards to be exact), before I can start ones from 2013. Razz

Also for some reason megawads like Hellcore (and Hellbound presumably) tend to be much harder than Hell Revealed 2 and Kama Sutra (slaughtermap style wads), I remember how damn hard was Hellcore because I died so many times, where in megawads like HR and KS, I hardly die (I die 1-2 times per few maps, where in Hellcore I died in almost every level, not to mention later levels where I got my ass-kicked so hard by dying twenty-thirty times in a single level! Embarassed )

You could also ask DBT and/or MC to include it in future AEoD updates. It looks awesome IMO.
